Dr Heather Bullen
Child and Adolescent Intellectual Disability Psychiatrist
An empowering, family-focused approach
I have specialist expertise and experience in child and adolescent intellectual disability psychiatry that I am keen to use efficiently to improve the health of children, adolescents, families and wider multiagency teams. I predominantly provide consultations online to Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists who request additional specialist expertise around individual cases. I am also keen to develop an online resource of information available free to families and professionals relating to my experience in this area.
Hello, I’m Heather
I trained in the UK as a psychiatrist specialising in child and adolescent intellectual disability and then worked in a specialist team at consultant level for 15 years in the NHS in Scotland. In 2024 I left this post and am now establishing an independent practice. I am passionate about treating mental illness and also improving mental health at a population level.

Desperate to know more? I will be expanding the information to include references for those who love their details and aim to include more information on the advantages and disadvantages of specific issues that are most relevant.
